Tragic Loss of Seven Lives in Bayesian Superyacht Sinking

On August 19, the 56-metre superyacht Bayesian tragically sank off the coast of Sicily, resulting in the confirmed deaths of seven people. The yacht was reportedly celebrating a legal victory when it went down, with six victims trapped inside. The cause of the sinking is under investigation, leaving the yachting community in mourning.

Collision Involving Steve Jobs’ Former Yacht and Lady Moura

A collision off the coast of Naples between Steve Jobs’ former 78.2-metre yacht Venus and the 105-metre Lady Moura drew significant attention. Footage from Lady Moura’s owner revealed the extent of the damage. Both parties have since issued statements regarding the July 22 incident, though no injuries were reported.

Wally Love Among Yachts Damaged in Formentera Storm

In a fierce storm near Formentera, Spain, the 31-metre sailing yacht Wally Love ran aground, leaving it stranded near the shore. This incident was part of a larger disaster, where over a dozen yachts were damaged by the sudden weather event.

Fire Sinks 47m Superyacht Atina in Sardinia

In Sardinia’s Gulf of Olbia, the 47-metre yacht Atina was engulfed by flames and ultimately sank. The fire spread rapidly, completely consuming the vessel before the coast guard could intervene. Recovery operations are expected to be completed by the end of September.

Manta Yacht Strikes Reef and Sinks in Corsica

The 27-metre yacht Manta sank after hitting a reef off the coast of Corsica. Fortunately, all 11 passengers were safely rescued. The accident, which occurred in shallow waters, is yet another reminder of the challenges posed by navigating rocky coastlines.

Illusions Sinks Off Isla Mujeres

The 32-metre motor yacht Illusions partially sank while docked in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. Local authorities responded swiftly, although the cause of the incident remains unclear. Damage to the vessel is extensive, and repairs may be necessary.

Fire Ravages Piraeus Marina in Greece

A fire tore through the bustling Zea Marina in Athens, destroying several yachts, including the 42.3-metre Libra Y. The marina fire caused significant losses, with some of the vessels being iconic designs by noted industry figures.
